Lifecycle Management

What Is Telecom Lifecycle Management?

Telecom Lifecycle Management (TLM) combines all the activities required for administering, managing, and maintaining an organization’s telecommunications, mobility and information technology services.

This means it goes far beyond tradition Expense Management or Wireless Expense Management, for example. TLM includes those areas. Yet it reaches further to embrace a holistic approach to all aspects of an enterprise’s communications services – think the standard categories plus internet of things, cloud, and so on.

At its core, TLM involves systematically managing services throughout their entire lifecycle, from conception to termination. Let’s take a look at a few key components of TLM:

Strategy:

Service strategy involves analyzing the market’s demands, outlining service options, and coordinating them with business goals. The process includes understanding customers’ needs, the competitive environment, and technological advancements to create a strategic plan for service development.

Design:

Translating service requirements into detailed procedures, architectures, and standards encapsulates service design. This phase also specifies service level agreements (SLAs) and ensures interoperability with other systems and network components.

Deployment:

Service deployment involves implementing and incorporating services into the network architecture. This process entails configuring software components, testing service functionalities, and allocating resources appropriately to ensure a smooth deployment and compliance with current network components.

Operations:

Managing and monitoring services in real-time, such as key performance indicators (KPIs), responding to malfunctions and issues related to the service, and carrying out necessary service improvements or optimizations, ensures optimal performance.

Optimisation:

Enhancing the overall quality of service (QoS) and user experience may require capacity planning, resource optimization, and usage pattern analysis. Here, service optimization comes into play to gradually improve a service’s performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Retirement:

To support new services or technologies, TLM helps recover resources, move users to alternate offers, and decommission services that are no longer viable or relevant.
